Dental inlays and onlays are in laboratory-manufactured fillings. It is a quality way to restore teeth when the defect is too big for filling, i.e. less than 30% of the tooth are left.
Dental inlays and onlays differ only in quantity; they are restorations of the same type. Tooth inlays are used for restoring tooth defects between the hummocks. Restorations of the onlay type also ensure also restoration of one or more hummocks or even of all chewing surface. Onlays are suitable in case when the tooth defect is too large for filling but it is still too early for a crown.
Dental inlays or onlays in most cases are made of ceramic. They may be also made of composite. The work is done in the technical dental laboratory according to individual imprint.
